“Chick chick chick chicken”

We had some special little visitors to pre-school this week.  Mr and Mrs Athorn who are grandparents to one of the children in pre-school visited with their beautiful hen called ‘Rose’ and six fluffy chicks.

The children were able to learn about the lifecycle of the chicken through handling the eggs, chicks and hen.  They were able to sit carefully with a chick on their cupped hands, although they were two weeks old and a little flappy and preferred to be in the tray where the children could feed them.  We were able to use the eggs in our baking activities later in the week.  Children extended their learning by ‘feeding’ tennis ball chicks with rice, making chicks from playdough and exploring materials to make ‘chick’ pictures.
